People across the country are loving the easy care nature and lovely looks of the hardy Apricot Drift® Rose (Rosa 'Meimirrot'). This true groundcover Rose is absolutely covered in large sprays of wonderful frilly, double apricot blooms from spring through fall.
Apricot Drift Rose features a low, spreading habit, which makes it a beautiful workhorse edging garden paths and walkways. It stays compact and never gets leggy with long bare stems, like some Hybrid Teas.
The lush flowers have 30 - 35 petals per bloom, much like you would find in the pouty old-fashioned English Roses. Apricot Drift blooms offer a depth of color that changes with the light and the age of the flowers.
Take time to study these pretty plants, and you’ll see apricot, peach and pink tones on the same plant. It’s a magnificent display.
Grow several of these plants to ensure you have plenty of cut material for beautiful cut flower arrangements. Gift yourself the charm of indoor arrangements with these “flower power” bloom factories.
Our expert growers give these plants exquisite care. Professional garden designers across the country trust the quality from Nature Hills landscape-grade plant materials, and you should too.
Rose breeders have outdone themselves this time when they came up with a groundcover series. Apricot Drift displays a season-long show of color. It is just as tough and disease resistant as others in the Drift® series.
The deep dark disease resistant foliage stays clean and attractive. The flowers continue to develop flush after flush. The flowers attract hummingbirds, bees and other beneficial insects.
You’ll relish the double apricot colored flowers as the bloom for you all through the growing season. Turn heads with this amazing little hardy shrub rose. Order Apricot Drift Groundcover Shrub Rose for your landscape today!
How to Use Apricot Drift® Rose in the Landscape
Apricot Drift Rose is perfect for small gardens, hillsides, perennial beds and even awkward areas. The lovely blooms brighten up borders, fill in empty spaces, and spread delicately around your favorite established plants.
As you can imagine with a name like “Drift”, these small Roses make incredible mass plantings. Plant them 2 - 3 feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Allow them to grow into a cohesive whole for an incredible display.
Roses always do best in full sun with well-drained soil. Let these charming (but rugged!) shrubs to establish your borders, along a long, winding path or to fill empty spaces in your landscape. Try to outline the bed with Baby Gem Boxwood for a polished look. Add Apricot Drift as a facer shrub to taller berry-producing Viburnums or gorgeous flowering shrubs like Oleander.
Repeat them along the front of your shrub border as an easy-care replacement for bedding plants. Or pop them in large containers on your patio or on either side of your entryway.
They take the heat like a champ! Include them in rock gardens and along slopes.
The deep dark green leaves are the perfect backdrop for those phenomenal apricot and pink flowers. We recommend snipping some of that delicious deep foliage along with the blooms for your cut flower arrangements.
#ProPlantTips for Care
People all across the country have wonderful success with these pretty Drift Roses. Quite simply, they are extremely cold hardy and can also tolerate the hottest climates in America.
Give these sun-lovers at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. They won’t tolerate “wet feet”, so please ensure they have well-drained soil. If you need to improve your drainage, mound up additional soil 18 inches above your native soil line. Plant directly in that mound.
Roses need a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Add a nice layer of mulch over the root system to keep it cool and moist.
Drift Roses have a great deal of disease resistance bred into this plant, but wood mulch is always a good idea. Mulch helps stop mud from splashing up on your pretty plants and can prevent soil borne diseases. Of course, mulch also looks terrific and visually ties the whole garden bed together.
Wait to prune your roses until after winter is over and the weather starts to warm up again. Apricot Drift Roses are not grafted. Instead, they are grown on their own root, so all growth that emerges in spring is true to form.
In early spring, selectively prune back last year’s growth down to 12 inches or a bit less. or even a bit less. Remove any broken, crossing, or winter damaged branches. Make clean cuts with a sharp pruner and spray with a diluted bleach solution between cuts. When you are done, you’ll have a combination of fresh cut green stems and undamaged spring green stems.
Enjoy these small Roses with a low, spreading growth habit. They are so well suited for small gardens or along paths and walkways. Give them a slow release fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer for support producing all those pretty blooms.
Fantastic flowers, foliage, fragrance and form. Add disease resistance and a wonderful repeating bloom—what is not to like? Order enough Apricot Drift Rose from Nature Hills to complete your planting today. Enjoy!
