How To Grow Tomato Plants

  • Sun: Full sun, 6 to 8 hours minimum. More sun means more fruit.
  • Soil: Rich, well-drained soil amended with compost. Tomatoes are heavy feeders and reward fertile beds.
  • Spacing: 24 to 36 inches between plants. Determinate types can go closer, indeterminate types need room to climb.

Indeterminate tomatoes are the right pick if you want steady fresh tomatoes all season for slicing, salads, and snacking. They take more support and more space, but they reward you with months of harvest.
