The Blue Price Holly is beautiful

The Blue Price Holly is beautiful. Dealing with everyone at The Nature Hills Nursery has been a real pleasure. They stand behind their products with integrity. Delivery of our Hollies was quick and during unpacking you can see the care they give to insure you get the best possible. Very healthy and full.

Healthy and full right out of the box is exactly what we aim for, Scott, so it's great to hear the Blue Prince Holly arrived that way. Proper packing really does make a difference with hollies, since they can be a bit sensitive in transit. Thanks for the kind words about the team as well. We hope your hollies settle in fast and put on a strong show for you.

Beautiful healthy plants!

I received these just slightly too late to plant due to our early cold snap. They stayed in pots on my front porch all winter long and looked gorgeous. I just put them in the ground yesterday and the root system looked very healthy. Can't wait to watch them grow. They are easily three times the size of the two specimen I purchased at Home Depot. Love them. Thank you!

Hi Viola - What a wonderful review, thank you! We love that your Blue Prince Hollies not only survived a porch winter but looked gorgeous doing it! That healthy root system is a great sign of things to come, and with a head start like that over the competition, we think you're going to love watching them take off. Thank you - Nature Hills Customer Support

Interested in your blue prince holly. We currently have over 40 of these and were previously told the blue prince holly mature height was 8 to 12 ft with a 6 ft spread. Also, they need partial sun.

You mention your blue prince hollies have a 6 to 8’ height with a 3 to 4 ft spread and need full sun.

Just curious if this is the same Holly. Please advise,

Thanks

Kevin

Nature Hills Nursery

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for asking such a great question! We can understand why you're asking about the size of the Blue Prince Holly. Nature Hills listing for
6–8 feet is accurate and realistic for how Blue Prince performs in typical garden or landscape settings.
The 8–12 feet range describes a potential maximum under perfect, unmanaged conditions—not the norm for residential or designed landscapes.

These broader estimates may reflect exceptionally favorable growing conditions—such as rich soil, ideal climate, or lack of pruning. However, many landscape uses involve pruning and regular maintenance, which helps keep the plant in that more compact 6–8 ft range.

So yes, it does sound like they are the same, it just depends on where you plant them and how they are maintained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Blue Prince Holly require a female pollinator like Blue Princess to produce berries, or is it self-pollinating?

  • Blue Prince Holly is a male plant that doesn't produce berries but serves as a pollinator for female varieties. One Blue Prince can pollinate 3-5 female Blue Hollies like Blue Princess, which will then produce the decorative red berries in fall. Plant your Blue Prince near female hollies for berry production.

What are the soil, light, and watering requirements for Blue Prince Holly?

  • Blue Prince Holly thrives in well-draining soil and partial to full sun exposure across USDA zones 5-9. Water regularly during establishment, then this drought-tolerant evergreen needs minimal irrigation once mature. Shop at Nature Hills for healthy specimens that adapt well to various soil conditions.

What common pests, diseases, or issues like powdery mildew affect Blue Prince Holly?

  • Blue Prince Holly is generally pest and disease resistant, though it can occasionally face issues with scale insects, spider mites, or leaf spot in poorly ventilated areas. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal problems.

Will my Blue Prince Holly stay evergreen through winter in cold climates, or does it turn brown?

  • Blue Prince Holly maintains its glossy blue-green foliage year-round in zones 5-9, staying evergreen even through harsh winters. The broadleaf evergreen provides reliable wind and snow blocking all winter long. Ensure proper fall watering to prevent winter browning.

What size will the Blue Prince Holly plant be when shipped, and what pot size is it in?

  • Blue Prince Holly ships as a young plant in a standard nursery pot, typically 1-2 feet tall depending on the season. These hardy zone 5-9 shrubs will mature to 6-8 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide over time. Shop at Nature Hills for healthy, well-rooted specimens ready to establish in your landscape.

What is the shipping guarantee or warranty if my Blue Prince Holly arrives damaged or dies?

  • Nature Hills stands behind their plants with a one-year guarantee from ship date. If your Blue Prince Holly arrives damaged or doesn't establish in zones 5-9, they'll replace it. Contact customer service with photos showing the issue for fastest resolution.
