#ProPlantTips For Care

Peach trees need full sun and at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Morning sun is best, as the strong rays quickly dry off the foliage from overnight dew. Hardy in USDA growing zones 5-8, Vivid is incredibly versatile, adaptable and tolerant of both cold and hot summers!

Please provide fertile, well-drained soil, enriched with compost and organic matter. Choose a site with slightly acidic soil, with a sandy-loam medium.

Fruit trees do not tolerate soggy conditions, so if you suspect you have poorly draining soil, improve drainage as needed by creating a mounded heap of soil 12 to 18 inches above the soil line and 3 feet out from the trunk, or plant in a raised bed.

Give your trees a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Make the most of the supplemental water by applying mulch over the root system to a depth of 3 inches. Spread the mulch out 3 feet from the outside of the canopy. Mulch not only provides insulation from heat and chill, but also maintains consistent moisture levels in the soil.

For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.

Good air circulation is important as well. Prune to keep the center of the tree open to both air and sunlight. It is easy to maintain this tree much smaller if needed for a small home orchard, small yard, or to harvest easily. Maintaining a smaller tree also allows you to cover in bird netting so your local feathered friends won’t carry away all of your harvest.

In late winter, prune to keep an open canopy for sunlight and airflow to reach the interior of the tree. Read more pruning tips and tricks, as well as Peach Tree Care in our Garden Blog!

See for yourself why Vivid Peach trees have such a devoted following. These lovely trees are truly stunning in the landscape, and the fruit is top quality. Add Vivid Peach trees to your landscape this season.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Vivid Peach Trees to bear fruit?

  • Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect a young peach tree to begin fruiting by the 3rd year after you plant it.

How Fast Do Vivid Peach Trees Grow?

  • Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Vivid (Prunus persica 'Vivid') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.

Where do Vivid Peach Trees Grow Best?

  • Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.

Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?

  • All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!
