Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, there is little these resistant and resilient plants can't handle in your yard! Knock Out® Roses have resistance to blackspot, powdery mildew, or leaf rust and also do very well in humid climates. What a wonderful plant!
The Red Double Knock Out® Rose stays compact, which makes it ideal for a wide variety of landscape uses such as foundation planting or informal hedges. It also makes a vibrant middle border or back border. Rely on their charming color and tidy, mounded form to welcome guests and boost the curb appeal of your property. No property? No problem! Plant them in a pot, and use it to decorate your sun-drenched balcony, porch or patio. Just give yourself and your guests some "wiggle room" to move past it, as those thorns are no joke! Larger planters and year-round porch pots will add long-lasting blooms to your patio and even balconies! The butterflies will adore the blossoms and stop by for a visit.
Add a single specimen to your cottage and perennial beds and borders, or accent your home's front steps, mailbox, or near driveways to welcome you home! Use a pair flanking on either side of your front door, or create interest with a triangular accent as anchor planting at the corner of your home.
Imagine several of them planted together for a big impact! These plants make excellent additions to foundation plantings. Plant them two feet apart on center to create low hedges that grow together. Or, use multiple rows planted in a staggered zigzagging pattern to fill a wide, open area. You'll appreciate how easy-care your new mass planting spectacle is when you fill large areas in profuse red blooms! Go for the gusto and mix and match with other Knock Out® Roses for a rainbow display! You will enjoy an instant style that makes everyone happy and you'll definitely appreciate the performance!
The Red Double Knock Out® Rose is best known for its drought tolerance and high resistance to blackspot and downy mildew! Just be sure to plant them in an area with good air circulation. Provide a full sun location and plant in well-drained soil that’s organically enriched and mulched well. The more sun, the more flowers! Plant in well-drained soil doesn't stay wet for long after a rain. If you see puddles that remain, you'll want to create a raised planting bed. For truly soggy soil, plant them in containers or create a berm.
Be sure to include a packet of Nature Hills Root Booster when planting. You'll love the boost in performance when you get your Roses off to the best start. Follow the directions on the package. Apply 3 - 4 inches of arborist mulch to cover the root system. Apply a slow-release fertilizer for Roses in early spring and again in mid-summer, following the directions on the label.
Although they are often listed as drought tolerant, Nature Hills recommends that you provide Knock Out® Roses with a medium amount of water on a regular basis. You'll be so pleased with how quickly they perk right up. For best results, water these regularly, or add a drip irrigation system beneath the mulch to make it easier for you.
Knock Out® Roses self-cleaning, so there is no need to deadhead spent blooms. What could be easier? These plants will stay smaller in the colder USDA Growing Zones, but if you wish to give them a trim, pruning is best done in early spring if needed. Wear gloves to protect your hands.
