Pennisetum setaceum, commonly known as Fountain Grass, is extremely adaptable and is an attractive, robust clumping grass. Even though it is a mound forming plant, it has an upright-open habit, and the cascading leaves on this plant have a fountain-like appearance. It is native to North Africa and the Middle East and widely cultivated as an ornamental. Use in mass plantings for a stunning display of color or as a specimen plant, in borders, or as an accent plant.
Fountain Grass is long-lived and easy to grow. You will enjoy this grass from early spring until dead of winter where it will make an elegant statement wherever planted. It grows best in well drained, fertile moist soil in full sun or very light shade. In late summer or fall the foxtail flowers appear in tan, pink or purple. Fountain grasses range anywhere from 12 inches to 3 feet high and wide, and mix well with other large perennials. If overcrowding occurs, this grass can be divided in late fall or early spring. Fountain grass is a standout in every season, and Nature Hills offer many outstanding choices.
