Native to South Africa, Freesia is a genus of 16 species with many hybrids and cultivars

of flowering, herbaceous perennial corms. Each bulb sprouts a fountain of spikey green, slender leaves that look great all growing season long!

Technically, Freesia grows from bulb-like structures called corms (swollen underground portions of the stem). The corms are round and squat, from which the roots and leaves emerge.

The tubular 6-petaled flowers have a spicy, peppery sweet fragrance, perfect for floral design and bouquets! With long flowering spires lined with trumpet-shaped flowers that stand atop elegant tapering stems, Freesia are beloved for their sweet scent and wonderfully petite size!

• These perennial corms need well-drained soil. Create raised gardens or berms if you have poor drainage

Freesia can be planted outdoors in the fall or spring in zones 9 and 10 and left in the ground year-round as perennial bulbs.
