Let's get this party started! You'll appreciate these energetic tree-form accents. They literally bloom most of the summer and keep blooming until autumn. A tree form of a best-selling Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Shrub, the true blue flowers of Azurri Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'DVPazurri') are highlighted with a striking, whiskered, red-purple center. You feel like you landed on a tropical island, even if you actually live in Terre Haute or Boise.

Consider Azurri Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form to be your summer good-time plant. Their unique, deep blue flowers are decorated with a beautiful, whiskered accent and prominent white center. Enjoy the cool-toned color combo! Blue blooms are a very special color that is rarely seen in the garden. It certainly helps bring visual relief during those long, hot days of summer.

You'll also appreciate the fine-textured, dark green foliage that acts as a perfect foil for the brilliant blooms. These plants are really easy to grow and should do well even for beginning gardeners.

They'll add so much personality to your plantings and they are fantastic pollinator garden plants! But these self-cleaning plants don't need you to fuss over them, either. No "party fouls" like deadheading are required for these eye-catching trees. These non-invasive Rose of Sharon with their large blooms are a huge improvement over the species. Our expert growers have carefully grown these showy shrubs into a single-stem tree form. Use them to make your landscape appear effortlessly chic.

Planting and Application:

Start conversations with a single specimen tree at the corner of your foundation planting. Or, plant a pair as sentries flanking either side of your outdoor entertainment area. They'll look amazing anywhere you have a sunny spot, and can be easily added to perennial borders and mixed beds. Let your creativity come out...you'll be inspired by these unusually pretty blue blooms.

Invite your friends to barbeque with you and your Azurri Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form. You'll make a big impression with these great blue flowers. Plant them near entrances for a stunning welcome. Your guests will be amazed by the deep blue blooms and watch the bees and butterflies roll in!

Expand the spacing to see a set of individual trees. Go closer together if you want their canopies to grow together and touch. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next. Plant a series of them in your patio planting bed for a delightful feature. Space them four to eight feet apart on center, depending on the look you are going for.

No yard? No problem. Use an oversized container on your balcony, positioned to block any unsightly view with an outstanding tropical-looking focal point. Add these gorgeous small, flowering trees as "Thrillers" in outdoor containers, or in the ground. You might be surprised what a good screen the lavish canopy becomes.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Althea in full sun to enjoy the brightest color, and the most flowers. They need at least six hours of direct sunlight. The more sun, the better! Provide well-drained soil. If needed, plant in a raised bed, or container. You can also add a heaped mound of soil 18 inches high by three feet wide for planting. Cover the soil with a three-inch layer of mulch, leaving a few inches of space next to the trunk. If you like, add a landscape border to create a stylish raised garden bed. Provide a medium amount of water on a regular basis. Container plants will need plenty of water. Research automated drip irrigation systems, they are a breeze to install. It's so worth it!

Early each spring, make sure to set aside some time to prune your tree form, don't worry, it's pretty easy! Simply grab your favorite pruning shears and reduce the overall size to a two to three-foot sphere. We do recommend making sure to get this pruning done very early in the spring. That way you won't damage any of the new growth and have maximum flower power! If you have an older, larger, tree feel free to only reduce the size to a three to four-foot sphere to preserve a little height. Renewal prune every 3-5 years to maintain vigor by removing the oldest stems entirely.

Use a three-inch layer of arborist mulch over the top of the root system to keep them nice and cool. Apply a controlled-release fertilizer in early spring. Please follow the application rates on the label directions.

Although this improved cultivar of Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon is considered "Deer Resistant", we always recommend you spray repellent regularly. Deer are curious and can get so hungry! So, train them to leave your special Azzuri alone by reapplying, according to directions.

  • Cold Hardy & Heat Tolerant
  • Prune in Early Spring - No Deadheading Required
  • Salt Tolerant & Deer Don't Prefer the Taste
  • Vigorous & So Easy to Live With
  • Very Few Seeds Make this Selection Hassle-Free

Tree Form vs. Shrub Form

The details make all the difference in a garden. At Naturehills.com, we understand that little things like what form a plant is can greatly impact how you plan your landscape. So before you buy, don't forget to check which form you're getting.

Tree Form:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching to a more desired height. Sometimes, you will hear a tree form referred to as a single stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
