You won't want to prune it and miss any of this fantastic floral show! For fantastic screening and privacy hedges, or pinpoint privacy in groupings, this Rhododendron will surround you in soothing peace and tranquility!
A year-round anchor and backdrop plant, Anah Kruschke softens the corners of a building or garden bed, or fills the corner of a fenceline with these pretty flowering ornamentals! You will truly appreciate the winter interest and your wildlife will love the year-round shelter from the elements. Add spring color to mixed shrub borders, or create a solid screen by planting 3 feet apart on center.
Get the best from this beautiful Rhododendron variety by selecting a well-drained site in a dappled light shade, but in cooler planting zones it can handle full sun. These are low maintenance, but they definitely need good draining soil. Preferring highly organic, enriched, and well-drained soil. Sandy loam is great, but clay? Not so much.
If needed, create a berm or raised bed 18 inches tall, and amend the soil in that bed with both pine fine compost and perlite pellets. Did you know you can improve the drainage of your soil by either creating a raised bed or by "mounding up"? You'll also "mound up" when planting your Rhododendron, the planting hole should only be about 2/3 as deep as the soil level. Leave about two inches of the root ball sticking up above the new soil level, then cover the whole thing with a deep layer of acidic mulch (pine needles are great!).
Never let the mulch touch the stem of your plants, just heap it in a circle all around that stem. Rhododendrons are shallow-rooted, so keep them well mulched with acidic mulches like pine needles and pull any weeds that dare invade their space. Prune only immediately after flowering or you'll miss out on those fantastic blooms next spring!
Trust us, if you love the look of Anah Kruschke Rhododendron, taking a few extra steps to secure her happiness in your landscape is well worth the time! This beautiful plant is so special. Order today at NatureHills.com!
Azaleas and Rhododendrons prefer partial shade (both dappled shade all day or morning sun with afternoon shade). Plant in a slightly acidic, consistently moist, enriched and well-drained soil location for best results. Their shallow roots dislike soggy soil but thrive with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their surface.
Anah Kruschke Rhododendron can reach 5-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide in optimal conditions.
Azalea and Rhododendron shrubs are very easy to grow and low maintenance. Water during drought, prune only after flowering and fertilize with an acid-loving organic, slow-release flowering plant fertilizer.
All Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhodondendrons are Azaleas. Azalea tends to be smaller-sized with smaller leaves and stems, while Rhododendrons can be larger with stout branching and larger bloom trusses. There can both be either deciduous or broad-leaved evergreens.
