Incredible color, the First Editions® Neon Burst™ Dogwood (Cornus alba 'ByBoughen' PP27,956), is highly desired for its full sun tolerance and it looks great all season long. Electric-yellow foliage color really stands out in the landscape.

In spring and summer, those shockingly yellow leaves can age to a chartreuse color as the season progresses. Highlighted by creamy-white flowers are born on the new growth in May that are nectar-rich for pollinators! Although not overly showy, they make great fillers in cut flower arrangements not only because of the flowers but because of the beautiful showy yellow foliage!

The color of Neon Burst continues in the fall where the leaves burst into orange-yellow, red, and even purple and put on quite a show. Each season this plant shines. Spring and summer show off their great, sunny leaf color, fall brings on a myriad of leaf color, and winter is when the beautiful red stems get to shine!

The winter stem color is a deep, shiny-red color and the white drupes bring birds into your fall and winter landscape! Exceptionally cold-hardy, Neon Burst™ thrives throughout USDA growing zones 2 to 7, this tidy and colorful shrub grows to a 4-6 foot tall and wide ball!

Planting and Application:

Neon Burst™ Dogwood has an upright, spreading habit when young, and ages more rounded. Remember pruning your Neon Burst™ is best done by removing the oldest stems out to the ground level, and not necessary to do much other pruning. In fact, they look best when left to grow as unpruned, informal natural form, allowing you and your garden visitors to enjoy the flowers and fruit.

How about repeating this plant across a perennial border or in a mid-range shrub border? Neon Burst™ also looks great used singly as a specimen plant or to anchor a corner of a structure. They look great in the landscape too. Neon Burst™ Dogwood plants also add great color when used as snow fencing.

Create a solid mass planting along an embankment or slope to stop soil erosion. Keep your planting tidy with weeding and judicious pruning for a look you'll be proud of for many years! Appreciating the moist soil of Rain Gardens and the base of where gutters drain, Dogwood appreciates the extra moisture these areas provide!

  • Electric Yellow-Green Foliage
  • Rich Red Stems For Winter Interest
  • Neat & Compact Size
  • Wide Variety Of Incredible Fall Colors
  • Outstanding Hedges, Specimens, Groupings & Versatile Accents

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Dogwoods are best grown in organically rich, medium to wet, well-drained soils in full sun and partial shade. This shrub prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils. Supply a moderate amount of water on a consistent schedule, if you don't receive adequate rainfall. For the first season in the landscape, keep a close eye on this hydration schedule to enable your new shrub to get established in the soil. Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over the root system to further cut down on surface evaporation.

Prune Dogwood hard in late winter to early spring to keep your plants healthy and vigorous, plus it's best to perform a renewal pruning every 3-5 years, by cutting out a few of the oldest, thickest stems to the ground. Your plant should look healthy and last for decades in your landscape. Trim the roots and promptly remove root suckers if the colonial spread is not wanted. It is a rapid-growing, multi-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub that grows to a maximum size of 8 feet tall on erect, usually unbranched stems.

  • Best in Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Appreciates Well-Drained Soil
  • Thrives in Average to Moist Conditions
  • Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
  • Easy to Grow and Maintain
  • Deer Don't Prefer the Taste
