Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 4-7
A gorgeous romantic spectacle, the Weeping European Beech Tree (Fagus sylvatica 'Pendula') is an incredible cascading focal point tree as it reaches a grand scale and cascades more dramatically than a Weeping Willow! Filling out in equally fine-textured green leaves, with their prominent parallel veins, that mature to dark green in the summer, they're highly contrasted against the Beech's light gray bark.
European Beech isn't just lovely lawn trees, their yellowish-green blooms in mid-late spring may not be the fanciest around, but your local bees and butterflies will adore them! Up close, those leaves are glossy with a lovely scalloped and rippled edge. Each set of branches tumbles elegantly over the other so the entire tree looks like a waterfall of green. The birds will also love the spiky husked nutlets that ripen in the autumn!
These Weeping Tree can be found thriving throughout USDA growing zones 4-7, tolerating very cold climates, but not doing well in the hot summers. Reaching a decent 35-50 feet in mature height and 20-40 feet in width depending on conditions in your area. These deciduous trees have a moderate growth rate and their foliage turns a lovely shade of coppery gold in the fall!
Planting and Application:
Weeping European Beech are perfect specimen trees for larger yards. You'll love how they elegantly spill over the ground and sway in the breeze. If you have the room, park one in the center of your front yard so that traffic stops and heads turn anytime someone goes past your home. We’re sure it will be the talk of the entire neighborhood!
Weeping Trees are classic focal points and these trees are large enough to be wonderful shade trees too! Their drooping branches offer prime nesting and cover for birds and wildlife, while under their canopy is the perfect little hiding area for a couple of chairs, a kid's play set or a quiet reading nook beneath the boughs.
- Glossy Gorgeous Foliage
- Unique Cascading & Pendulous Branching to the Ground
- Coppery Golden Fall Color
- Low Maintenance & Bird-Friendly
- Great Specimen, Shade & Highly Ornamental Lawn Tree
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Beech Trees need a bit of pruning in late winter to help accentuate and tidy up their weeping branches, but not too much. Plant in a full sun location for best results and any site that is very well-drained and moderately moist. Tolerant of acidic soil, mulch well with a pine bark mulch to acidify the soil, retain moisture and insulate the roots. This also makes cleaning the spiky nutlets easier.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Moderate Moisture & Appreciates Mulch
- Any Well-Drained Slightly Acidic Soil
- Prune Late Winter If Needed
- Beechnuts for Wildlife
