Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 4-8
Pink Sparkles® Flowering Crabapple Tree (Malus x 'Malusquest') is a shiny new hybrid cross of the beloved 'Prairifire' and 'Red Jewel' Crabapple trees! As usual, the offspring carries all the qualities of both parents! Crimson buds burst open into soft pinkish-white blossoms that are fragrant and wonderful to behold! At one point on your tree, it will be filled with all three bud and blossom colors before fading to soft sparkling pink!
Flowering Crabapple Trees fill out in glossy leaves and Pink Sparkles® is remarkably disease resistant, so those leaves will look great all growing season! But what this tree has in ample amounts is the glossy, highly decorative, bright red tiny fruit that will cover this entire tree! Persistent until spring, you'll have all the bees and butterflies in your yard all spring, and then local songbirds by the flock in fall, winter and early spring too!
Pink Sparkles® is very cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 through 8 and reliably flower every spring! Growing moderately to a mature height of 12-18 feet tall and a tidy spread of 10-15 feet wide, these are mostly rounded and compact growing ornamental trees!
Planting and Application:
Flowering Crabapple Tree deserves to be the center of attention! Year-round ornamental appeal from the flush of spring flowers to the glossy green foliage and shade to the gorgeous fruit set that persists the rest of the year! Set one by your front door or line your driveway with a row of these fragrant blossoms! A single specimen by your back seating area or outside a favorite window will provide year-round delight.
Pink Sparkles® lets you enjoy fall and winter interest with the shiny red fruit that dangles delightfully from every branch - unless the local songbirds carry them all away for you! Snip a few for winter décor both indoors and out, or just sit back and watch as snow collects on these glossy red fruits in the yard! Group for dramatic showcasing and shade, not to mention the pollinator and wildlife draw. These are perfect for lining your street without worrying about powerlines.
- Gorgeous Soft Pinkish-White Fragrant Blossoms

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Crabapple Trees need full sun to flower and fruit the best! Plant in a very well-drained site with ample organic matter and consistent yet moderate moisture. Provide a bed of mulch to insulate and retain moisture best. Prune right after flowering so you don’t miss any of next year's flowers! In summer, it's also the best time to remove suckers that may form at the base of your tree.
- Full Sun
- Average Moisture & Mulched Beds
- Adaptable to Most Well-Drained Soils
- Prune After Flowering
- Very Hardy & Disease Resistant!
Pink Sparkles® Flowering Crabapple Tree is going to be your new favorite ornamental flowering jewel to crown your landscape this spring! Hurry and order yours in time for fall planting season at NatureHills.com!
