Yarrow, also known as Milfoil and botanically as Achillea millefolium, is an herbaceous perennial. Yarrow may also be known as Thousand-Leaf, Gordoloba, Thousand-Leaf Clover, Green Arrow, Nosebleed, Dog Daisy, Bloodwort, Cammack and Pld-Mans Pepper. The name Achillea is thought to come from Greek mythology. The Greek leader Achilles was fabled to have had his wounds treated with this plant. Yarrow plants are easy to grow and they provide flattened flower clusters atop fragrant fern-like foliage. Yarrow comes in a variety of colors including white, yellow, pink and red.

Plant yarrow in full sun and in well-drained soil. Yarrow is deer resistant so they are especially popular in areas such as rock gardens and border plantings where deer a likely to graze. Trim back the plants after flowering to encourage more blooms. Yarrow will spread quickly so it is a good idea to divide the plants every two years or so. Yarrow has been used in the past for medicinal purposes. Available literature tells of yarrow being used for severe colds, slowing blood flow from wounds, and for treating fevers.
