The Little Moses™ Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus 'Odom') may seem like an ordinary low-lying bush, however, it is anything but! Planting one of these dwarf Burning Bushes in your garden ensures a spectacular show that you won't want to miss come fall!

This deciduous shrub fills out each spring with densely packed small, pointed, light green leaves. It'll stay attractive throughout the summer, but the real show starts in the fall! The tiny yellowish-green flowers may not be showy but fat bumblebees and other pollinators will seek them out for their nectar and pollen resources!

As the air turns crisp and your thoughts turn to campfires and smores, this bush turns the most brilliant color of red. You'll have to see it to believe this little bush can pack so much color into its leaves!

The Little Moses™ Burning Bush is a miniature version of the original Winged Euonymus, cultivated in 2002 with the hope that it would have a naturally denser, more compact form. Little Moses™ keeps all the bright red fall brilliance of the original while staying quite small and highly manageable!

This bush will produce little berries later in the season. While they aren't edible to humans, neighborhood birds will stop by to enjoy them! If you're interested in adding birdwatching to your list of hobbies, planting a Little Moses™ Burning Bush is a great place to start!

Planting and Application:

The light and unobtrusive green the Little Moses™ dons during the spring and summer makes it the perfect border specimen or accent plant. Cottage Gardens, Rock Gardens, and Perennial Gardens are gorgeous and deserve to be bordered with a plant that won't ruin its beauty by growing tall and unruly. Little Moses™, being the dwarf version of its larger counterpart, is just the small bush for the job!

It'll also create a wonderful backdrop for your flowering perennials and then take center stage once they're done for the year. As your neighbor's gardens are all winding down for the year, yours will still be in full swing showing off vibrant colors!

Perhaps you're looking to spruce up the sides of your house? Little Moses™ makes a wonderful foundation plant with its green foliage and a burst of autumn color! Little Moses™ is sure to command attention wherever you place it. Why not add one to either side of your driveway or entryway? Talk about making a showstopping first impression!

If one of these is pretty on its own, think of the impact Little Moses™ would have if added to landscapes as a mass planting! Just think of how grand a brisk fall stroll through a garden filled with these compact Burning Bushes would be!

Adding one or two of these shrubs to the base of your mailbox is a surefire way to make a stunning statement and add loads of curb appeal! Each fall, it'll make those who pass by gasp in awe and wonder how they can get their own! We'll leave it up to you whether you divulge your secret or not!

  • Pretty Light Green Summer Foliage
  • Radiant Red Fall Color!
  • Neat & Compact Smaller Form
  • Attracts Pollinators & Wild Birds
  • Excellent for Mass Planting & Fantastic Border Specimen
  • Barrier Plant & Foundation Plantings

#ProPlantTips for Care:

You'll love how easy this Little Moses™ Burning Bush is to take care of almost as much as you'll love the color! Gone are the days of fussing over bushes in order to be rewarded with their beauty. Simply plant it somewhere with well-drained soil and in full sun or partial sun. It is rather tolerant of some shade, but be careful, too much shade can diminish its radiant red color come fall!

When planting, remember that full sun means you'll want to water consistently and thoroughly when plants are young. Older more established plants are more drought and sun-tolerant and only need moisture during extended periods of drought. Top the root zone with a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch and you'll have much less moisture loss to worry about. One way you can make moisture less of an issue is by adding a layer of mulch around the base of your dwarf shrub.

While you probably won't need to because of its naturally small stature, if you'd like you can prune your Little Moses™ to whatever shape you'd like in the very early spring before it starts leafing out. Renewal pruning helps keep older shrubs growing vigorously, by removing the oldest, fattest stems every 3-5 years. In areas where this shrub may be an issue from self-seeding, shear or prune right after flowering to remove any possible fruit.

Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to ensure we remain compliant with all Federal and State Agricultural laws and regulations, so add your zip code to the Plant Highlights section and see if we can ship Little Moses™ to your area safely!
