That shade of purple is the perfect foil against the richly blue-green heart-shaped leaves.

A priest and educator, Father John was an early participant in the International Lilac Society, where he developed over 50 named cultivars and brought them to market. Every landscape in Zones 2- 8 should have at least one Lilac. Choose the Yankee Doodle for its rich fragrance and color. Once the sunlight is limited, you will see reduced flowers - so plant them where it is sunny and enjoy those deep, rich, fragrant blooms.
