The Japanese Plum Yew (Cephalotaxus harringtonia) is one of the best shade-tolerant evergreen shrubs around! Fine-textured needles are soft to the touch and create beautiful dense year-round greenery!

Evergreen foliage emerges a bright green in early spring and then matures to a gorgeous deep bluish-green. The perfect backdrop for the tiny white blossoms and red jewel fruit that forms, only on female bushes if a male is planted nearby. Not to mention a fantastic backdrop for other plants and shrubs too!

Rarely damaged by deer, go ahead and plant a row as a woodland edging without worry! These are easy-care hedges, back-of-the-border shrubs and lush privacy.

Perfect as backdrops for other plants and shrubs, as anchors for garden beds and borders, hide eyesores and of course screening walls when planted in rows or groupings. Plant along your shaded foundation for vivid curb appeal!

  • Very well-drained soil thats moderately fertile is best
  • Healthy growth rate!
  • Female shrubs will have fruit if a male is nearby
  • When to prune Yews is in early spring or late winter before you see new growth. Shear lightly in summer if you are creating a manicured hedge.
