Japanese Holly Hoogendorn
Super cold-hardy goundcover!
Rhode Island, the littlest state in the Union, has given us coffee milk, grinders and quahogs; the Farrelly Brothers, Seth MacFarlane and James Woods. And now, Hoogendorn Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata 'Hoogendorn')!
Discovered at Hoogendorn Nursery in Middletown, this holly is extremely cold tolerant and one of the best evergreen groundcovers you can find. It grows low (2’ tall and 3’ wide) and keeps its mounded shape without any pruning necessary. It grows thick and green. With its small, dark leaves it is a perfect alternative to boxwood.
Hoogendorn makes a wonderful short shrub border around a big garden bed or along a walk. Use several to quickly fill up a large area with year-round green. It grows thick enough to be a great weed-blocker under trees and in large areas. It makes the edges of planters, paths and lawns instantly appear neater and is one of the best foundation plants around. If you have rocky ground, Hoogendorn will fill in with ease.
Try it under dogwoods, yews, lilacs and redbuds for a thick, beautiful, year-round carpet.
Since it was discovered thriving in the far north-east of the country, you know that it has impressive cold hardiness. Don’t worry about harsh winters. Hoogendorn will stay green and keep on keepin’ on!
This is just about as “bulletproof’ a groundcover that you can find. Order yours from us today and see for yourself!
