When setting up an edible landscape, please don't accidentally steer away from growing Grapes. They add exceptional beauty, and can provide your family a wonderfully succulent yearly harvest for decades.

Vigorous, precocious Mars Grape (Vitis 'Mars' PP# 5680) starts to bear clusters of blue grapes early. This seedless blue table grape vine is covered with well-filled clusters of tasty fruit; and has a robust flavor similar to Concord.

Mars Grape is a vigorous selection with medium-sized, cylindrical, and well filled clusters. Medium-large Mars grapes are great for fresh eating.

They are also easy to prep for jellies. The slipskin berries make it easy to separate the flavorful, snappy skin from the great-tasting flesh.

Mars Grape vine bears early in age if allowed. Versatile and fast growing, a grapevine can bear in just two years.

This grape needs full sun and tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, but must have good drainage. Mars, an introduction by the University of Arkansas, is one of the most resistant grape varieties to black rot and mildews.

Grapes need full sunlight and high temperatures to ripen, so plant on southern slopes, the south side of windbreaks, or the south sides of buildings. Mars Grape performs very well in hot summers.
