Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Cesky Gold® Dwarf Birch

Availability: Out of stock

Love Birch Trees and want them in your landscape but don't have the room for a full-grown tree? Maybe you are just looking for something completely different? Well, you will fall in love with the Proven Winners® Cesky Gold® Dwarf Birch (Betula x plettkei 'Golden Treasure') that's not a tree - it's a shrub!

Cesky Gold® is an incredible dwarf version of our favorite woodland tree! Featuring slender branched stems loaded with tiny, ornate little leaves in bright golden green, creating a fine-textured effect similar to Spirea shrubs! The red stems show off the chartreuse foliage, and become even more colorful in the fall when the entire ColorChoice® shrubs foliage transforms into hues of red, yellow and orange! Snip a few stems in the spring, summer, or autumn to add bright greenery to your bouquets indoors!

Grossly underutilized and sure to turn heads, Dwarf Birch are actually more like Micro Birch! This colorful foliage plant produces tiny brown flowers on old wood and some later tiny seedpods. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are significant. These little darlings are tidy shrubs growing just 24 - 48 inches in height with a spread of just 18 - 36 inches! They're incredibly cold-hardy as well! Handling chill down to USDA growing zone 2 through 7.

Planting and Application:

Whether you grow this little Birch naturally or shear it into tidy forms, Cesky Gold® is a surefire deciduous standout! Replace your overused Spirea or Barberry with brilliant color and easy-care beauty! Not just a fantastic specimen on its own, evenly spaced rows or measured groupings of Cesky Gold® make landscape beds get noticed without sacrificing space!

Dwarf Birch are low enough to not block your view - so line a driveway or path with these bright foliage plants, divide your front yard from the street, or wake up a weary foundation planting to draw attention to your home! Line the front of an older evergreen hedge that may have leggy or bare stems as a bright row of facer plants! Or use as fine-textured backdrops throughout your Perennial Garden and mixed-shrub border!

Go ahead and fill a large planter in these little curiosities! The toothy leaves and amazing fall color are sure to impress as thrillers and selective privacy plantings in urns or wooden planters around your seating areas and patio! As each month passes, you'll enjoy the full range of bright colors that coordinate with every season!

Like other Birch family plants, Cesky Gold® is highly adaptable once established. Provide regular waterings their first year, then they become able to handle higher moisture environments and occasional drought! Top-dress with a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over their roots for best results, insulation in the winter, and to enrich the soil. Though rarely needed, shear or prune in the late spring or after flowering.
