The Barberry 'Golden', Berberis thunbergii aurea, is a small, slow growing deciduous shrub to 3 to 4 feet with equal spread. Small white flowers can be observed in little clusters beginning in early April, lasting through May.
The bright yellow foliage turns to green by late summer then red in fall; more lime green in summer if planted in shady spots.
'Golden' is a definite knockout in just about any landscape! Plant as an accent shrub or in mass plantings. (May be too bright for use as a hedge due to the intense bright yellow color if planted in full sun.)
Small 1/4" long bright red, oval shaped seed pods are sometimes seen on 'Golden' Barberry in late fall, after the leaves have dropped. This Barberry seems to do best when watered regularly; has an above average moisture requirement.
