With soft texture and flowing fountains of green foliage, the Atlas Fescue (Festuca mairei) is a xeric and beautiful garden addition for a smaller ornamental garden grass! Forming an explosion of soft fronds showering from the rosette base up and out, these rounded mounds add so much whimsy to the garden!

Shooting up lovely little flowers in June, these tan blooms wave above the fountain of fine-textured foliage. In warmer zones, this foliage can remain evergreen! The steady green year-round provides great texture! Even in cooler zones where these turn a lovely tan, looking magical when covered in frost and light snow.

Atlas Fescue is a hardy perennial cool-season grass that can reach a tidy mound of 2-3 feet in mature height and mature width. With a medium growth rate, you'll not have to wait long to see these green tufts of grassy foliage adorn your garden beds and borders.

Planting and Application:

Atlas looks lovely as a low hedge, border and edging plant, thriving in xeric locations and rock gardens, or even that hell-strip along roads, sidewalks and paths. Use along the front of a garden bed to ease the transition between lawn and garden, or in drifts to fill large areas with graceful ornamental texture.

Ideal as mass plantings to fill large areas both in home gardens and commercial locations. Fescue is fantastic erosion control on steep embankments and dangerous-to-mow hillsides. Create lovely groupings throughout garden beds and among perennials in cottage gardens, front landscaping and even in porch pots and patio planters.
