Is it time for a change in your shady borders and beds? The Tuff Stuff™ Hydrangea (Hydrangea serrata 'MAK20') is here to help you! This is a stunning new version of the classic lacecap Mountain Hydrangea. Since it blooms on old AND new wood, it is an almost non-stop bloomer from early summer all the way into fall!

Almost an "everbloomer" you really need to see Tuff Stuff™ to understand its sheer flower power. The blooms are semi-double to fully double in the classic lacecap pattern - tiny dark red or deep purple flowers are in a cluster surrounded by larger florets that are magenta pink or lavender-blue (depending on the soil pH).

The flowerheads are much bigger than you might expect from a shrub this size! Combined with the textured green leaves and their dense branching pattern. This gives you more blooms than you'd ever think possible! The large heart-shaped leaves are bright green all spring and summer but turn magenta and burgundy in the fall - while the flowers are still on the plant! Talk about a great color show!

Planting and Application:

Tuff Stuff™ is also considerably more compact than other Mountain Hydrangeas, making it the perfect choice for containers on your porch and patio, flanking paths or your driveway while elevated in a fancy urn or pot!

Highlight sunny low decks and balconies in pots, or as a low foundation planting that surrounds the perimeter. Likewise, the lacy blooms look gorgeous around the outside of a patio or ground-level deck, and dot the perennial border. Create dense bird-friendly shelters by planting groups or in rows for low screening.

  • More Blooms Than You Can Imagine!
  • Big Lacecap Blooms
  • Pink or Purple/Lavender-Blue Depending on pH
  • Great Flowers in Vintage Colors for Cutting & Drying
  • Gorgeous Fall Color

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Mountain Hydrangea are hardy natives throughout many parts of the US and are highly adaptable in the home landscape throughout USDA growing zones 5-9. Plant in full sun in cooler summer climates and part shade in hot growing zones, favoring afternoon shade in hot summer sun areas. Plant in enriched well-drained soil with a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the surface of the soil to hold in moisture and keep the roots cool. Prune only to remove dead wood in spring, after the new growth begins to emerge. Because these bloom on old and new wood, pruning too much will remove the new flowers!

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Well Drained Moderate Moisture
  • Prune Only in Spring
  • Appreciates Mulch
  • Blooms on Old & New Wood
