If you are looking for an enchanting addition to your water-wise or coastal landscape, you'll want to look at the Sea Lavender (Limonium perezii). These rounded subshrubs are a perfect study in contrasting textures.

Thick, oval leaves emerge as a clumped rosette. At a foot-long, the leaves add a rough-textured, handsome charm all year, and can burnish to purple tones in fall.

Also known as Statice, Sea Lavender creates a lush ground cover with little fuss or muss. These sturdy, durable plants are water-wise and low-maintenance once established in your soil.

Slender, yet strong stems loft showy blooms high above the foliage base. Each bloom can be 8-inches across and is composed of hundreds of tiny flowers.

The blooms look purple from a distance, but you'll appreciate their tender white interiors when studying them up close.

The overall impression is a fascinating study in strength and airiness. When seen from a distance, lovely light purple blooms float over the top of their boldly, solid base.

You'll enjoy the main flush of blooms in summer, but don't be surprised to see blooms appear nearly all year-round. Allow them to decorate your landscape, then cut them for interior arrangements.

Dry them indoors and you'll have a long-lasting, natural floral display for your tablescape. Replenish them each year!

Grow Sea Lavender in the ground or in large outdoor containers. This plant grows into an ornamental mainstay of low water and coastal gardens. It is wind-resistant and tolerates salt.

Hummingbirds, honey bees and butterflies will certainly appreciate these valuable nectar-resources. But deer and other pests tend to pass it by.

This charming and tough perennial offers an astonishing textural play. Let Sea Lavender become a cherished plant asset this season. Order today!

How to Use Sea Lavender in the Landscape

You'll find many ways to enjoy these personable plants. Try a formal look in a high-profile area; use a pair flanking either side of entryways and garden gates.

Set them up in large outdoor containers as a single species to grow into a sophisticated mound. If your container is large enough, you can also add them as a memorable "Filler" that works in many seasons.

Add Sea Lavender near the foreground of lawn plantings and borders. Use several to create a "ribbon" of color and texture by planting two feet apart on center.

Sea Lavender makes a wonderful mass planting. Add additional rows in a zigzagging planting pattern to fill a bare spot in your yard.

Try a fun technique to tie different areas of your garden together. Create a "living river" of blue-violet blooms by planting in a winding, curving line.

A planting like this needn't be too wide. A narrow stream of color is very effective, too.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Provide at least six hours of direct sunlight a day for these sun-lovers. You'll have the best flowering in a sunny spot.

It will perform best in well-drained soil that sheds excess water quickly. If you need to improve drainage, plant them in containers or create a raised bed.

For the first season, water them on a regular schedule. After their roots are established in your soil, they'll be fine without supplemental water in all but the worst droughts. Container-grown plants will need a consistent watering schedule every year.

Add a three-inch thick layer to cover the root system to cut down on surface evaporation. Pull the mulch back from the foliage by several inches.

Remove old leaves in late winter. Remove spent flower bracts as you like to tidy during the season. Or, you can choose to get in the habit of gathering flowers for indoor arrangements!

In areas with deer pressure, we always recommend that you apply repellent the day you plant your new Sea Lavender. Deer are curious, train them to leave your plants alone from Day One. Reapply according to label directions.
