Fruit trees require full sun for the most vigorous growth and best harvest. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun.
Doing best in rich, deep, loamy and well-drained soils, it’s also best to mulch your root systems surface very well to better retain consistent moisture and insulate the roots from both heat and cold.
Water regularly, making sure to provide supplemental watering when fruiting, during the heat of summer and during times of drought. While partly drought tolerant once established, it’s best to protect your investment with plenty of water in times of need. Young trees especially, require consistent moisture to become properly established during their first year.
For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Situate in an area that is protected from frost pockets and with good air circulation. Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior. Head over to our Garden Blog for more Fruit Tree Planting, Fruit Tree Pruning and Fruit Tree Care tips and tricks can be found!

All Pyrus varieties have different requirements to set fruit. While a few varieties are self-fertile but will always have a larger harvest with a pollination partner. Warren (Pyrus 'Warren') is self-fruiting and doesn't need a pollinating partner, but will bear more fruit when paired with another pear tree.
No room? Look into High-Density Planting techniques, or choose a semi-dwarf or dwarf fruit tree.
Bareroot Pear trees are best planted in the spring but container-grown Pear trees can be successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season as long as the ground isn’t frozen and they are carefully watered as needed.
