Pink is always welcome in the garden...but these fabulous shrubs deliver a bright cerise pink that will stop you in your tracks! Get an armload and an eyeful of the amazing 10-inch long flowers of the MONARCH™ Prince Charming Butterfly Bush (Buddleia x 'Prince Charming')! Prince Charming is an ultra-refined modern cultivar that gives you the color you crave. Each one is adorned with long, reddish-pink panicles that cover the end of outreached branches.

Starting in mid-summer, and lasting all the way through fall, put this Prince of a Buddleia to work in your landscape. You'll love the huge blooms, and so will all your neighborhood butterflies! Frankly, old-fashioned Buddleia look a bit common-looking and rangy when compared to this new and improved cultivar!

End your growing season with a royal fanfare! Bequeath your landscape with Prince Charming's stupendous flower power...just as other perennials and shrubs are wrapping up. The raspberry-pink flowers burst into bloom in mid-summer and keep coming. Their honey-scented blossoms are so easy to grow. Enjoy plenty of intensely colored flowers with this modern cultivar that thrives throughout USDA hardiness zones 5 to 9!

Planting and Application:

Each year, they'll grow quickly into an elegant, vase-shaped, upright specimen. Use this Prince Charming with pride, even in the most meticulous setting! These are stand-up and stand-out heroes in the sun landscape and look fantastic in formal and informal settings alike!

No matter the style of your home and landscape design, these "good mixers" will make an elegant statement. They fit just as well in a casual contemporary design as they do in an ultra-modern one. Even in a strictly formal garden, you'll find a place for their bold color and perfect form. Corral them with a Boxwood hedge, create a lovely Cottage garden, and use them as a very noteworthy perennial bedding plant.

Bold, wand-shaped flowers are composed of many hundreds of tiny, individual flowers. You'll get a real kick from watching Monarch butterflies; along with Fritillary, Admiral Swallowtail, and many other species work the blooms over to gather up the copious nectar. Place them somewhere you'll enjoy the show! You won't believe how popular these late-season flowering plants are with beneficial pollinators.

Even Hummingbirds will come for a daily visit to their nourishing nectar!

Plant several Prince Charming, so you'll have plenty for cut flowers, too! Just visualize how welcoming it will be to greet your guests with fragrant blooms in a special vase placed on your hallway table. Attractive, lance-shaped foliage makes a marvelous contrast. Be sure to snip a few branches to include in your arrangement!

With their upright rounded shape, Prince Charming Butterfly Bush makes a showy addition to mixed perennial borders and Rock gardens. Perk up your existing plantings...the easy way! Prince Charming can be used as a terrific low hedge to stir the hearts and minds of your garden visitors. Fulfill their quest for easy-breezy summer style and screening by planting them two feet apart on center; measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

Add additional rows in a staggered planting pattern. You'll fill bare ground in a sun-soaked spot with an amazing color show. Mix in some of our other Butterfly Bushes for a bespoke look, that is customized to suit your personal style.

Growing half the size of a typical Butterfly Bush, Prince Charming looks great in enormous outdoor Containers! These special shrubs make exceptional "Thrillers". Plant a pair on either side of your front door for a charming welcome. Underplant with flowering groundcover and spring-flowering bulbs for a long-lasting display that provides plenty of nectar for pollinators.

These opulent bloomers make an incredible gift plant. Say "Happy Birthday" or celebrate a big achievement with one or more. Low-maintenance Prince Charming is perfect for beginning gardeners and would be a very welcome housewarming present. Hint, hint!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

You'll relish the great looks and high performance of these sturdy, well-formed shrubs. They tolerate high heat without dropping their guard. Give Butterfly Bushes full sun and well-drained soils for best results. Create a raised bed if you need to improve drainage. Plant with Nature Hills Root Booster, and a 3-4-inch layer of arborist mulch to support your shrub's root system further. During the first season in the ground, carefully supply a consistent amount of supplemental water. After the first year, these waterwise plants become drought tolerant once established.

Lavish your Prince with some deadheading of spent Buddleia blooms...and you'll reap the rewards through fall. Flowers are borne on new wood, so prune them back down to a foot high in early spring. They act like woody perennials in Zone 5 and 6 so trim them all the way down to the ground in the spring instead. They'll grow quickly from the roots to full size each year.

  • Widely Adaptable, Heat Tolerant & Full Sun
  • Moderate Moisture & Fertility
  • Easy Care in Well-Drained Soil
  • Flowers on New Wood - Prune Early Spring
  • Rarely Damaged by Deer
  • Drought Tolerant Once Established
