Exotic Look for a Native Fruit: The Magic Fountain™ Weeping Persimmon

  • Can be used as edible landscaping
  • Low maintenance
  • Disease resistant
  • Ripens late October through early November
  • Lives up to 75 years
  • Strongly Weeping Almost Columnar Specimen

You probably have never seen a Magic Fountain™ Weeping Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana 'JN5'), but you might want to put one or two of this native persimmon in your cart today. While the Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon is rather uncommon, it is an uncommonly good choice for both fruit and landscaping.

Your Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon will give you a treeful of conical golden-yellow fruit, about an inch in diameter. Once ripe, pluck one from the tree and taste the rich, sweet flavor with a hint of honey. It is perfect to each fresh, make into jam, add to a salad, blend into a smoothie, or turn into a pudding.

But remember to leave the fruit on the tree as long as you can because the longer it stays on the branch, the richer and sweeter it will be. Your family and friends will be amazed at the tasty flavor this variety produces.

The Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon is self-fertile, but it does better when you plant it with a partner. In the spring you will enjoy the creamy white to light yellow bell-shaped blossoms almost as much as the bees. You will even attract night pollinators, like moths, who also love the blooms.

But what really sets the Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon apart is the tree itself. It is a small variety that grows in a column. And the branches, drooping down, with rich green leaves that will turn bright yellow and orange in the fall. It grows rapidly, so it won't be long before you can enjoy the exotic fruit.

Don't limit yourself to planting this as part of your garden, it makes a great part of your full sun is what your Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon wants, along with rich, well-drained soil. This variety can be thirsty, so give it a good drink from your garden hose each week during its first year, and a little more often if the soil is sandy.

You might want to add 4-6 inches of mulch to enrich the soil, control weeks, and retain moisture.

If you haven't already put a couple of these wonderful fruit trees in your basket, you will definitely add two or three Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon when you learn that the fruit is loaded with lycopene, lutein and a host of vital vitamins. Your neighbors will envy you because of the beautiful tree, the delicious fruit and your great health--all thanks to the Magic Fountain Weeping Persimmon.
