Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 7-11 annual in all growing zones
Exotic tropical Hawaiian Punch Colocasia (Colocasia esculenta 'Hawaiian Punch') Elephant Ears are a stunning variety of Elephant Ears. The huge heart-shaped green leaves are long, thick and glossy. Mature plants reach a height of 2 to 3 feet and their leaves are adorned with attractive red margins with red veins on their underside.
The contrast between the bright tropical green foliage is the bright Hawaiian Punch red stems that look fantastic when mixed among other tropical foliage plants and flowers in the landscape! The leaves of Hawaiian Punch droop to the ground. The blossoms consist of yellowish-green spathe and spadix.
Shrugging off heat and humidity with ease, Colocasia continually produces new leaves throughout the growing season. Mature Elephant Ear plants reach a height of 4 to 5 feet with their leaves up to 2 feet wide. Perennial Colocasia corms in growing zones 8 to 11 and annual accents in all growing zones. The old leaves die off and can be removed to keep the plant looking neat and tidy.
Planting and Application:
Elephant Ears are fantastic specimen plants and ideal to add an exotic flair to seating areas, as pinpoint privacy around the pool, or as gorgeous accents and backdrops among other tropical plants, vibrant Callas, or mixed among exotic Ginger and Banana plants! Containers, planters, and in the ground, you won't go wrong with these fantastic focal points!
This plant performs best along the edge of a pool or submerged in a water feature. Any higher moisture location along streams, Rain Gardens, and that boggy area around the HVAC unit that can use some tropical flair. The dramatic hue has a fantastic effect that will look great in any garden!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best coloration, grow Colocasia in full sun or partial shade for the most color and plant them in organically rich well-drained soil. Colocasia are tolerant of both average to high moisture locations. Gardeners in zones 3-7 may overwinter the corms indoors. As soon as the temperatures drop below 40°F, dig the corms up, brush off excess soil and store them in dry peat moss or wood shavings. Place in a warm, dark and dry place with a temperature no higher than 50-60°F.
- Grow in Full Sun or Partial Shade
- Moist Well-Drained Soil
- Appreciates Regular Fertility
- Prune After Foliage Yellows
- Cold Zones Can Lift & Overwinter Corm
- Low-Maintenance Annual in Cold Climates
