Soft Rush Grass
Grows in water!
Some plants like it when it’s wet. Soft Rush (Juncus effusus) can take it really wet! It naturally grows at water’s edge, in both fresh and salt water, and even grows strong in up to 4” of standing water. So, if you have a pool, pond or creek water feature in your garden and you are looking for a perfect landscape plant, look no further than Soft Rush.
It doesn’t have to grow in water. It grows in good garden soil, too, as long as there is plenty of watering during the hot summer season. It grows 2-4 feet tall and forms beautiful straight clumps of grass-like foliage that can look both naturally wild and modernly formal, depending how you use it.
Soft Rush is totally low maintenance and carefree. It is evergreen where the winters are mild, but is a reliable perennial grass where winters get a little colder. Just sheer the dormant plant to the ground and it will come back strong year after year.
Wildlife like it for shelter and nest building, so you will likely have a garden buzzing with activity all year. If you are planting a rain garden or have a swale for water runoff, then you will definitely appreciate Soft Rush. It will quickly and easily help anchor your wet spots where other plants would struggle.
This is a great plant that fills the gap in hard to grow areas. Don’t wait to order yours!
