Silver Foliage and Super Fruit!
Silver Buffaloberry, Shepherdia argentea, is a pest and disease free native substitute for the invasive Russian Olive. Nature Hills is no longer selling Russian Olive plants, but you'll adore the gorgeous look and usefulness of Silver Buffaloberry!
Sleek silvery foliage contrasts beautifully with plump, luscious red fall fruit. Many fruit growers are excited about the nutritional benefits of the berries which are high in vitamin C. They are excellent in jam, jellies and pies but you may have to fight the birds for your fair share. It will be worth it! Plant multiple plants together in groups for best pollination, as only the female plants produce berries.
This native shrub is wildly adaptable and tolerates most soils once established. This includes occasional flooding and even drought. They grow to 12 feet tall high and wide - so stay a bit smaller than Russian Olive. However, these are nice, shrubby plants that are branched to the ground and make an excellent windbreak in open areas. You can also use them as a large, thorny barrier hedge or privacy screens.
Silver Buffaloberry is an excellent, large scale shrub with beautiful silvery foliage all season long. Use it as you would Russian Olive, and enjoy! Order today for the best selection.
