Four-pointed stars so different, your tree looks covered in white square pinwheels! Introducing the fantastically unique Blue Ray™ Kousa Dogwood (Cornus kousa var. chinensis 'JN6') for your landscaping enjoyment! Longer lasting bracts in white produce bright red berry-like fruits in fall. As fall approaches, the blue-toned leaves transform into a vibrant reddish-purple splash of fall color for your landscape. Everyone wins all growing season long!

We're talking about you, the neighborhood, your home curb appeal, your pollinators, and your backyard songbirds - all stand to gain something from this tree! Featuring the classic Kousa Dogwood tree's dark green leaves that appear in early spring, but the real show starts in late spring when those unique blooms arrive. Add a horizontal branching structure that forms a domed canopy for an amazing ornamental flowering tree!

Kousa Dogwoods are very showy for a long period of time as the flower bracts are showy longer than most flowers. They'll give you up to a month of display! And Blue Ray™ has an even longer display before giving way to the bright red fall fruits, which resemble Raspberries. Some people make jellies, jams and wine from the round red berries. Or, you can leave the fruit for winter interest and for the birds! They'll be happy to snap them up for you without any fuss or muss.

Planting and Application:

Use Blue Ray™ Kousa as a knock-out specimen plant, or as part of an informal grouping in larger yards. One will look magnificent on its own or paired with other Flowering Dogwoods in a berm planting, creating a naturalized woodland setting. When grown as large shrubs they make big beautiful screening plants too.

On large properties, you could space them 10-15 feet apart (measuring from trunk to trunk) as a large privacy screen. Mix with other trees or shrubs, including evergreens to create a healthy, diverse environment for songbirds and wildlife.

This tree would look stunning planted in small groupings along a mixed border. It creates a marvelous focal point in the backyard and around seating areas. Or use it as an anchor for a foundation planting to bump up the curb appeal of your home. Try them along the back of a garden as focal points. Blue Ray™ lends its showy structure and a bit of shade for smaller shrubs and perennials around them.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Blue Ray™ Dogwoods handle full sun and partial sun equally well but do best in afternoon shade in the hottest of the USDA growing zones 5 - 8. Be sure to keep them well-watered because they do not like to dry out. Place arborist mulch in a 3-4 inch layer around the root system. This particular Dogwood has a better disease tolerance than many other flowering Dogwoods and is generally hardy and easy to care for! Prune Dogwoods right after the flowers fade.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Consistent Moderate Moisture
  • Well-Draining Enriched Soil
  • Appreciates Mulch
  • Prune Only Right After Blooms Fade

Gorgeous creamy white flowers, lovely branching, fall color and red fruit on one fantastic tree! You better hurry and order this fantastic new flowering Blue Ray™ Kousa Dogwood tree from Nature Hills Nursery before they sell out!
