For that old-world flavor in pies, sauces and jam, you can't go wrong with Victoria Rhubarb (Rheum 'Victoria')! Green stalks are blushed in pinks and reds and hold their color and flavor in all your favorite desserts! These are garden standards of the Victory garden and some clumps still stand today strong as ever! Victoria is a larger, more robust, and relatively disease-resistant perennial vegetable!

Large green, heart-shaped, ruffled leaves shoot up in early spring. Reliable year-to-year growth from spring through frost, and an outstanding flavor as well! Bold white blooms reach high in summer and call pollinators! The blushed stems have green interiors and Have a strong, tart taste.

Long-lived and ornamental, Rhubarb is great in cooler climates! However, Victoria Rhubarb still produces a great crop in warmer regions as well. In almost any location in USDA growing zones 3 through 8 can enjoy this delicious plant and share it with family and friends! Harvest should be significantly slowed in late June or into July so the plant can build energy for next year.

Planting and Application:

Victoria's stalks are great cooked and preserved, while some even eat the stalks fresh! No more boring, average meals because this Victoria Rhubarb is able to be the game changer in your cooking! In Europe, Rhubarb is a vegetable crop and the stems are peeled, salted and eaten, or used in salads and have a crisp texture similar to celery. Discard all foliage when harvesting as it is non-edible due to high concentrations of oxalic acid. Try using the fresh leaves to make your own garden stepping stones!

Rhubarb's medicinal uses date back at least 5000 years, and the roots are used in Chinese, Greek and Roman medicine. But you can use your plant as a large corner accent by the shed, or victory garden centerpiece! Any and every herb, fruit orchard, vegetable garden or kitchen garden deserves its own clump of Rhubarb and enjoy the dark green leaves for their texture!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Fast-growing Rhubarb grows in full sun and does need a bit of room to spread - growing 3-4 feet tall (in bloom) and forming mounded clumps 2-3 feet wide. Provide bareroot and young plants regular moisture while they are establishing, but after the vigorous root is drought tolerant. Provide an enriched, deep, well-drained soil location, but Rhubarb is not fussy about soil type.

You should remove the entire flower stalk by pulling that stem from the crown, this will keep the energy going into producing more stems and foliage, and food reserves go to the roots. It is important to note the leaves are non-edible and should be cut off and disposed of. In late fall after frost, remove all remaining stems and leaves from the crown and cover with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch, compost or clean leaves.

  • Full Sun
  • Moderate Moisture
  • Deep Well-Drained Soil
  • Mulch Crowns Well for Winter
  • Remove Entire Flowering Stalk & Prune Back Late Fall
  • Deer & Pest Resistant
