Polana Raspberry Bush

Availability: Out of stock

For healthy, homegrown berries that just won't quit, grow Polana Raspberry (Rubus idaeus 'Polana'). This special variety has a unique season of harvest! They are very prolific, and you'll enjoy a late spring crop of red berries on the old canes. Then in early fall, pick your large harvest from the new canes that grew this season. You'll get two crops a year!

Polana is a speedy producer of delicious, red fruit that develops quickly from flower to finished. Your main crop will be ripe for picking very early in the fall growing season.

Even new gardeners have success with these vigorous plants. Originally developed in Poland, Polana has strong canes that don't grow as high as other varieties. They'll fit right into your Edible Landscape!

You'll get fruit from a single plant, as Polana Raspberry is self-pollinating, and the white blossoms bring in the busy bees and butterflies to help with the work.

But why not extend your season of harvest with additional Everbearing varieties, such as Polka, Heritage, Anne, and Joan J? The fall harvest comes early, ripening weeks earlier than the beloved Heritage variety. Include Polana in your Raspberry patch, and you won't have to wait long between crops! This will also boost pollination among all the shrubs!

Raspberry lovers...you understand! There is nothing more satisfying than enjoying fresh-picked fruit that you grew yourself.

Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8. With Nature Hills, you'll receive extremely well-packed plants shipped straight to your door. It doesn't get easier than that!

Planting and Application:

Enjoy these bright red berries fresh-picked standing by your bush, or bring them indoors to prep them for later. Their coherent texture lasts a long time in the fridge. Polana berries dry, freeze, and can beautifully. A sunny spot in your Kitchen Garden or by your backdoor means healthy fruit and kid-friendly snacks within arm's reach!

Smoothie lovers will be in heaven with this healthy option! Get your daily dose of colorful fruit the easy way! Use in baked goods, make special preserves, or try your hand at making fresh "fruit leather" in a food dehydrator. Why pay for artificial color and flavorings, when you can have the real thing?

Raspberry plants themselves are quite charming! Those cheerful white blossoms twice a year bring in the butterflies and fat bumblebees. Plus, those pretty red jewels are irresistible and catch the eye!

Growing slender and tall, Polana grows 4-6 feet in height, but only 1-3 feet wide! This nearly columnar Raspberry can be trained onto an obelisk or trellis, grown on an arbor, or against a fence without sacrificing precious space! It will even grow in a container with support in the middle for the canes to be secured onto.

A single shrub is a unique specimen in sunny front or backyards! You can easily add a row or block along the back of your garden beds. A grouping or curved raised bed adds lovely screening behind seating areas or your outdoor dining room.

Do you know how many people across the United States are waking up to the realization that it is easy and fun to grow food at home? Frankly, the days of the enormous, uninterrupted front lawn are numbered. Edible Landscaping is a huge garden design trend that is here to stay. Start the ball rolling and watch as your neighbors start adding small fruits to their sunny spots. Soon youll be sharing your excess harvest over the back fence and swapping produce and conversation!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Polana Raspberry needs full sun for the best fruit set. It appreciates at least 6 hours of direct sunlight and should be planted away from structures for proper air circulation. These plants need well-drained soil with ample organic matter.

When planting, you can even create a tiny hill, or berm to help keep water near the roots of your plant. Raspberries do love regular water! Especially during fruit production, Raspberries require a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. We suggest installing soaker hoses or drip irrigation to keep the leaves dry and healthy. Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over the roots to cut down on surface evaporation, and a spring application of fertilizer to support your harvest.

Create a raised bed with handfuls of organic matter incorporated into the soil. Be sure to add Nature Hills Root Booster to the top few inches of soil to support your plant's absorption of water and nutrients for life. In mid-spring and early summer, apply a slow-release fertilizer according to directions. This heavy feeder would also like a top-dressing of compost every other year.

Prune Everbearing Raspberries after the first year. Leave the plant alone during the first season.

  1. Starting the second year, in spring. You'll select 6 of the best new canes and trim them back with a 45-degree angled cut. Remove the weak, spindly new growth completely.
  2. Harvest your first crop from the old canes in late spring. Once harvest is done, remove old canes and place them in your yard waste bin.

Simply plant, sit back, and watch this wonderful specimen thrive!
