An alternative to the big boys!

So you’re in love with the idea of having a spruce tree in your garden. And why not? They are some of the most beautiful evergreen trees around, with their gorgeous blue colored needles and classic Christmas tree form. Unfortunately, they are also HUGE – sometime 3 and 4 stories tall at maturity - and you don’t have that kind of space.

If this is you, then Columnar Blue Spruce (Picea pungens 'fastigiata') is your answer. This smaller version of the classic blue spruce is just what you need to give you the look that you want without having to worry about it taking up all of your garden space. This is a tall, skinny specimen tree that will fit into areas too narrow for many other evergreen trees. It tops out at 25’ in ten years (as opposed to 40’) and only gets 7’ wide.

The beautiful blue-green needles cover the upward facing branches that give the tree an “at-attention” appearance. They never need pruning, but always look pruned.

Columnar Blue Spruce looks great in any garden setting from very formal to very rustic. And it looks good all year! Plant it with any other evergreen or any of your perennials. There isn’t any plant that won’t look good next to it.

Now that you know about it, you know you want this lovely tree in your garden, so go ahead and order from us today!
