  • Sunlight: These lilies thrive in full sun, meaning at least 6 to 8 hours of direct light daily. While they tolerate partial shade, you will notice sturdier stems and more intense fragrance when they soak up the sun.
  • Soil: They require rich, loose soil that drains as quickly as a colander. If you have heavy clay, mix in organic compost or plant them in a raised mound to prevent the bulbs from rotting in stagnant water.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, keep the soil consistently moist like a wrung out sponge to help the root system settle. Once established, these lilies are quite resilient, but inconsistent watering during the budding stage can lead to smaller flowers or premature bud drop. Aim for deep soakings at the base of the plant twice a week rather than frequent light sprinkles.

Since these lilies bloom on the current season's growth, you should only remove the flower heads once they fade to prevent the plant from wasting energy on seed production.
