Shocking Spring Color
Even though it sounds like a character from J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’, Bangle Woadwaxen (Genista lydia 'Bangle') is a shrub that you definitely want in your own garden adventure.
This is a new, more floriferous, and longer blooming selection of Genista. The shocking yellow pea-like flowers come in waves along the branches in early spring.
It has small aqua-bluish-green leaves throughout the season, but they are so small the plant looks nearly leafless at a distance. The green arching stems, though, provide very interesting structure throughout the year.
Bangle Genista is a ground hugger growing slowly to 2’ tall and 3’ wide. It fills up right to the ground, so there is no need for anything to hide its feet – it looks great in the front of the border.
Bangle Woadwaxen needs full sun and well-drained (even sandy) soil. Standing water will kill this otherwise easy-care plant.
Use the delicate texture to add interest to containers, borders and mass plantings.
It tolerates unseasonable heat and is disease resistant.
When mature, it forms a lush, rounded bush that keeps its olive-green foliage abundantly until frost. Buy several and bring a new sense of adventure to your garden today!
