Fluffy clusters of flat-topped blooms and ferny green foliage, Wild Quinine (Parthenium integrifolium) are reminiscent of Yarrow but much rarer! The tall flowering stems are long-lasting and highly resistant to insects and diseases, not to mention retaining their hardy native resilience.

Flowering from May through August, the white loose clusters of blossoms attract their fair share of bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Fragrant and long-lasting, snip a few stems for bouquets as filler!

With a rich history as a medicinal herb, the leaves were used as a poultice for burns and the roots were used to treat dysentery. Wild Quinine is a hardy perennial native that grows throughout USDA 4 through 8. Growing 2- 4 feet in height, and spreading 1-2 feet in width. The upright form and late-summer show are well worth it!

Planting and Application:

These plants form from a deep taproot, allowing them to withstand harsh conditions, poor soil, drought, and even fire-prone locations, returning year after year reliably! Plant in native plantings and prairie restoration projects. Pollinator gardens and perennial gardens gain a tall, back-of-the-border accent, and groupings create tall focal points throughout the Cottage Garden!

Wild Quinine looks lovely along narrow ground that lines pathways in the sun and as backdrop perennials. Plant along a wood fence or evergreen hedge to add a touch of native beauty! Great height for mixed borders, sunny Rock gardens, and mixed with native Grasses and other prairie wildflowers!

  • Fluffy White Flower Clusters - Long-Lasting Tall Blooms
  • Ferny Green Foliage
  • Pollinator-Favorites & Unique Cut Flowers
  • Historical Prairie Plant & Medicinal Herb
  • Back Borders, Groupings, Accents & Xeric Garden Uses!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Quinine needs sunny and very well-drained soils are best. Provide regular water at first, but once established, these plants develop their taproot and become quite drought-tolerant. Prune back these herbaceous perennials in the late winter or very early spring, removing any remaining stems and foliage from the area. These plants are seldom bothered by deer or rabbits and are very low-maintenance landscape additions! Provide a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over the roots to help support their moisture availability.

  • Full Sun Perennial
  • Hardy Adaptable to Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
  • Deer Resistant & Pest/Disease Free

Wild Quinine is a rare and unique wild native perennial that is perfectly suited to rugged locations and pampered gardens alike! Order now at Nature Hills!
