An aromatic Hops variety? You bet! Introducing the Vista Hops plant (Humulus lupulus 'Vista') is an especially fruity Hops variety, Vista is a cross between Perle and an unknown male. It displays strong citrus, grapefruit, and tropical flavors, aromas of gooseberry, white, wine, peach, honeydew, and papaya! Recently developed by the USDA public breeding program, you’ll add a new fruity layer to your homemade craft brews!

Said to work well in lighter, more delicate lagers and pilsners, this Hops was bred for its larger cones, high yields, and higher tolerance to drought and heat! Growing 15-20 feet tall and about 3-6 feet wide, this plant fills out in lush dark green foliage that resembles pleated Bramble foliage. In fact, Hops have small thorns that help them grasp and cling for support.

Vista Hop is a perennial bine that produces a large harvest of light green, elongated large cones and comes back year after year throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8. Growing from hardy rhizomes, Vista is a late-season ripening variety.

Released in 2021, this female selection does not need a male plant to produce the cones. The sprays of greenish Vista Hops flowers are self-pollinating, but you will still want to plant more than one for a significantly higher yield. Only the female plant produces cones.

Planting and Application:

Used for 2,000 years as a medicinal plant, Hops today are fast-growing ornamental plants that grow like vines for hiding eyesores, and providing shade and privacy! Train yours to grow on a wall, trellis, fence, or up the railings of your steps.

Let these pretty bines serve double duty as a fast-growing privacy screen. Hops make a very appropriate garden wall for an outdoor dining room, wouldn't they? The pollinators will agree and fly up to your new garden addition in droves! The scaled, pinecone-like fruits are a lovely light green and add their own ornamental appeal to your fall landscape! Go ahead and use a few for unique dried bouquets and wreath décor!

Why not train your fruiting vines to grow over a support to shade a path, or curve them around your outdoor grill for shade in the summer? You can even create a kid-friendly Tipi by training the tendrils up twine supports to the top of a central pole.

  • Huge Elongated Cones

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Very easy to grow plants, just give Hops plants full sun and sharply drained soil. Elevate the planting if you need to improve drainage. Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular schedule and top with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to keep your Hops rhizomes and the soil cool. As the plant grows, assist it frequently to grow onto your support or twine. Encircle the bine clockwise around its support regularly as a young plant.

After Hops reaches a good size, some like to remove the leaves from the lower few feet to avoid powdery mildew and increase air circulation. Harvest once the sticky cones spring back to a gentle squeeze. This hardy perennial vine-like bine dies to the ground each winter and should be pruned after the cones are harvested or after a hard frost.

  • Full Sun Is Best
  • Regular Moisture Schedule & Loves Mulched Beds
