Standing Ovation Serviceberry
A Brand New Form of an American Native
Serviceberry is a native American plant that thrives from coast to coast and north to south. We are still not sure why this tree isn’t more well-known or used more often in landscaping. It has so many great qualities going for it and now it is even better! The Standing Ovation Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia 'Obelisk') is a new introduction from First Edition Plants that elevates this beauty into a new realm of landscape possibilities.
Standing Ovation – like all serviceberries - starts out the spring with a massive display of white flowers that rivals the dogwoods. Then, sometime in June, the tree is flush with delicious edible berries that taste like blueberries. They can be eaten fresh, used in preserves, dried like rains, baked into muffins or pressed for juice or wine. Then in the fall, the round leaves change to red and orange lighting up your landscape in classic autumn colors.
The thing that makes Standing Ovation stand out from previous versions of serviceberry is its beautiful form. Most serviceberries are small trees or large rangy shrubs. Standing Ovation is upright to 15’ and almost perfectly oval. One is a sharp specimen plant - many in a row make an eye-catching hedge or windbreak.
A truly adaptable plant, this native thrives in any soil – even wet soils – and does fine in full sun or part shade. You really can’t go wrong with this great plant. Order yours from us today and enjoy the show for years to come!
