Ignite Red St Johns Wort
St. John's Wort - Ignite Red, Hypericum androsaemum 'Ignite Red', is a very popular shrub because of its unique, compact habit, loads of deep red berry clusters in the fall, and its dark green leaves that are an amazing contrast to the bright yellow flowers and red berries; sometimes having both on the compact bush at the same time! After the first deep frost, this hypericum will lose its leaves and enter dormancy.
When this well branched plant comes out of winter dormancy, it should be grown in full sun with plenty of water to get a good start; spring is a good time to transplant. Ignite Red is rust resistant, deer resistant and is low maintenance. The foliage in sun can turn a great red and is a very colorful and handsome looking bush. Only dried up branches have to be cut back to the ground, and if planted in a container, the plant can be stored in a dark cool garage or shed over winter.
