Fluffy Clusters of White Blooms: The Japanese White Spirea

  • Low-Growing Floriferous Shrub
  • Intricate White Blooms
  • Pollinator-Friendly
  • Easy to Care For
  • Fragrant
  • Reblooming If Deadheaded

The Japanese White Spirea is a prolific bloomer that fills in that garden gap when other blooms have come and come, yet it's too early for fall color. This lovely shrub offers refined blooms, more delicate than the hydrangea, but with a similar visual effect.

Spirea blooms are a microcosm of refined beauty. From afar the intricate and fluffy stamen give the Japanese White Spirea a snowy appearance. Each cluster grows at the end of a branch, and they glow solid white. One of the more charming aspects of these crowds of blooms is that they have a slightly flattened face (less round than hydrangeas).

When admired up-close, you will notice each flower is a balanced five-petals and host of expressive stamen that flare outward with a round tip, creating a sparkler effect.

These festive clusters of flowers are a real treat for bees and butterflies. They will dance about these lovely sweet-scented flowers for weeks. When the first round of blooms finishes, a quick deadhead will reward you with another round of fresh new blooms later in summer into fall."

When fall arrives, you can anticipate added interest as your Japanese White Spirea's leaves soften in color to a lovely coppery tone.

Plant this deciduous and compact shrub in your mixed perennial border to extend the flower season. Or use it to define the edges of your landscape. Because of its easy-going nature, the Japanese White Spirea makes a great foundation planting or informal hedge with added interest. For best performance, let your Spireas bask in full sun.

The Japanese White Spirea is a stunning addition for summer radiance and happy pollinators. Don't miss your chance for a charming and low-maintenance shrub that will fit in almost anywhere you want to add a bit of elegance.
