Cascading Flowers All Summer
With a flower show fit for a wedding, Spirea is a showstopper for your perennial gardens or borders. Known for the beautiful cascading sprays of crepe-like flowers blooming for months in spring and summer, these classic garden shrubs look delicate but are hardy garden performers. Spirea is also known as bridalwreath, since the flowers bloom during wedding season and have traditionally been used to weave into bridal crowns, bouquets, garlands and wreaths.
Daphne Spirea is a dwarf version with blushing pink flowers that spread 2 feet tall and 5 feet wide. You can use Daphne as an excellent filler for sparse beds and borders. It looks great massed and makes a low-maintenance groundcover. Just one spilling over the edges of a large container will make people stop in their tracks when in full bloom. The flowers aren’t the only benefit of this useful shrub. It has great fall color, too.
Plant Daphne with white roses or graceful miscanthus grasses. Try it with spiky, upright cotoneaster for a great contrast and eye-catching texture year-round.
Generations of gardeners have enjoyed Daphne Spirea in their gardens and we know that you will too!
