Striking columnar Skinny Genes® Oak (Quercus robur x alba 'JFS-KW2QX' PP# 24442) is a fantastic fit in small space gardens. They look impossibly modern with long, lean lines and strongly fastigiate branch structure.

Skinny Genes is noted as the narrowest Oak tree cultivar to date. They grow quickly while young and bring an impressive sense of excitement to your landscape plan.

Planting and Application:

Lustrous, lobed deciduous foliage has a deep green, leathery appeal and resists powdery mildew. These clean, glossy leaves brighten to a glowing golden-yellow for fall color.

  • Try your Skinny Genes on for size in tight side yards. Use several of them as a tall privacy screen; measuring eight feet apart on center so the canopies grow together and touch.
  • This is a great choice for a pair of sentries flanking either side of a formal home with a symmetrical façade. With their strong central leaders, furrowed bark and trim, tight form, Skinny Genes Columnar Oak trees announce your entryway in an elegant way.
  • Run an evenly-spaced promenade of these lovely vertical accents along the length of your parking as a contemporary street planting. This treatment easily delivers fresh styling to your landscape.
  • Create a noteworthy focal point with a curved lawn planting to enjoy from your deck or patio. Be creative with this specialty tree...stagger a double row or alternate with Swedish Columnar Aspen or Slender Silhouette Sweetgum for extra visual interest.
  • You might be pleasantly surprised what an effective screen a single Skinny Genes Oak tree can be. Place it precisely where you need more privacy, and let it climb skyward to achieve your goal without overwhelming your space.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Skinny Genes Oak trees in full sun with at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. The soil should be well-drained; raise them up in a mound of soil three feet wide to improve drainage, if needed.

  • Use Nature Hills Root Booster in the planting hole for life-long support to tiny feeder roots. This symbiotic formula will never "wear out".
  • Get expert planting tips from the NatureHills.com Horticulture Team. Hydrate your new trees well after arrival, before planting, and again afterward planting to eliminate air pockets.
  • In late winter, prune to correct shape or remove broken branches as needed. Fertilize with a quality tree formula in spring, following directions on the label.
