Red Cloud Dogwood
The Dogwood, Red Cloud, Cornus florida 'Red Cloud', has leaves that are crinkled around the margins and has pink bracts. It offers year round interest with red to pink spring flowers, distinctive, oval, vertically curved leaves in summer, and scarlet red leaves in the fall.
As an extra bonus it produces glossy red berries that persist into winter. These fruits are also a favorite of many birds as well as squirrels, rabbits, and raccoon.
‘Red Cloud’ Dogwood requires well-drained, acidic soil, rich in organic matter. Partial shade is preferable for best performance. Dogwoods are somewhat susceptible to drought, so be sure that sufficient water is provided during dry periods; mulch well to keep shallow roots cool and retain valuable moisture.
Plant this dogwood along the woods edge, in combination with azaleas and rhododendrons or as a small, specimen lawn tree.
Perfect for the smaller yard, ‘Red Cloud’ Dogwood is a dwarf tree that provides outstanding four season color!
