The Richful Raritan Rose Peach

  • An Excellent White Peach
  • Bursting with Flavor
  • Small-to-Medium Tree--Perfect for Conserving Space
  • Sweet Scented Blooms

While most people recognize peaches for their luscious yellow flesh, there are also white peaches ready to impress? The Raritan Rose Peach (Prunus persica 'Raritan Rose') is one of these white-fleshed rarities that will incite wonder and joy.

The Raritan Rose Peach was introduced during the Great Depression. This mid-season producer is a delicious yellow peach alternative, so you might want to try biting into one of the wonderful peaches and see what you're missing out on.

The Raritan Rose Peach has a medium sized, round fruit. The skin is yellow with a little red mixed in. The firm, white flesh is sometimes streaked with flecks of orangish red.

The Raritan Rose is very sweet and aromatic. Inside, the creamy, tender flesh of this freestone variety is loaded with fragrant juice. Unlike many other varieties with white flesh, the Raritan Rose Peach is bursting with flavor, begging you to take another bite. These are best eaten raw, straight from the tree, but if you have more than you can eat, you can also freeze them.

When winter's grey skies turn to the sunny days of spring, the Raritan Rose Peach tree will explode with lots of pink blossoms that will bring a horde of pollinators to your yard. And these bees and butterflies will do the job for you without the help of another tree because, like other peaches, this variety self-pollinates.

While the Raritan Rose Peach does its best in colder climates, it does not like extremely cold winters and needs hot summer weather to bring out the best in its fruit. The tree itself is smaller than many varieties of peach, but it is a vigorous and healthy tree that will start bearing large crops by its fourth year.

When you get ready to plant your Raritan Rose Peach, remember that it likes full sun, and plant the trees about 15 feet apart. The soil should be well drained and it will need fertilizer periodically. Water these regularly, but make sure that you don't over do it. They can be sensitive to wet feet.

So if you want to try something that is a little off the beaten path, buy a couple Raritan Rose Peach trees and enjoy their delicious sweet white fruit, straight from the tree to your mouth.
