Let us introduce you to the newest star in the world of Dogwood shrubs! The Pucker Up!® Dogwood (Cornus stolonifera 'Neil Z') is a gorgeous plant that has leaves that are so elegant and textured that they look almost like they were hand-stitched by master quilt-makers! The flowers are pretty, but the leaves will stop you in your tracks!

The flowers attract bees and butterflies that arrive to sip the nectar every spring. Dogwoods rarely need pruning to maintain their sexy shape and it also looks good in the winter when their bare branches blush red. Growing to a rounded 3-4 foot tall and wide mound, creating a vivid spectacle year round. This Red Twig Dogwood variety features fall color that features a red blush to the foliage to further highlight the blueish berries that birds adore!

It wasn't that long ago that every garden in America wanted a Dogwood. These ornamental shrubs were easy to care for and had those classic flowers that everyone "in the know" had to have! When the daughter of the famous department store magnate had her home on the cover of that famous magazine, it was Dogwood branches in the vase on the grand piano. After that, no socialite worth her silver spoon would be caught dead without several Dogwoods available in the garden for floral design!

Cold-hardy and rugged, these fantastic shrubs grow throughout USDA hardiness zones 3 to 8 and handle about anything from drought, wet soil, deer, and pests! These are wonderfully low-maintenance shrubs!

Planting and Application:

Use Pucker Up!® in mass plantings along the foundation of your porch, in a naturalistic garden bordering the property line, or as a stand-out specimen in a pot by the patio! This will maximize their unique texture and create wildlife-friendly groves, hedgerows, and shelterbelts that catch drifting snow and feed pollinators and songbirds! Plant multiples so that you can cut the branches and bring them inside for very "of-the-moment" decorating.

A single specimen stands out among other shrubs as a single specimen or focal point in small gardens and courtyards. Include as a feature a mixed shrub border where their four-season interest! Pot up in large planters for a curious accent. Rows create lovely backdrops and hedges! These are best grown naturally as an untrimmed hedge. The elegant foliage, pretty spring blooms, and ornamental fall berries are well worth it!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This new take on an American native Dogwood is so easy to care for! It handles just about any soil - even wet ones - and thrives in partial shade. But you'll get the best color in full sun. Highly adaptable to both wet and dry sites as well as a variety of soil types, it is adapted to wet soil conditions as long as the drainage is good. Mulch with a layer 3 to 4 inches deep to 3 feet outside of the canopy to ensure the root stays cool in the hot summer. Increase water during dry extreme heat.

For the best winter color, give your Arctic Sun® Dogwood regular pruning in late fall, or renewal prune by removing several of the thickest, oldest stems right down to the ground. You'll want to use the cuttings in large arrangements and outdoor containers for the Holidays! Leave the young, thin stems standing as they'll have the brightest color for you. If you stay on top of this easy task, you'll be amazed at your annual winter display.

  • Tolerant of a Wide Range of Conditions
  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Appreciates Well-Drained Soil
  • Thrives in Average to Moist Conditions
  • Prune Late Winter/Eary Spring
  • Easy Care, Few Pest & Disease Concerns

It's all about the leaves! If you have even briefly thought of having a Dogwood in your yard, then this is the time to buy, and Proven Winners® Color Choice® Pucker Up!® Dogwood is the shrub. Be the first person you know to have one! Order yours now at Nature Hills!
