When planting partial sun perennials, consider the amount of light the specific area receives per day.  Partial sun means the plants get at least three to four hours of direct sun a day, but less than 6 hours of direct sun.  If the plants are under a tree and receive filtered light most of the day that can also be partial sun. There are many hardy perennials that will perform beautifully and bring additional color to a shaded location.

Choose a well-drained and moist, fertile soil and apply a thick layer of mulch to conserve soil moisture.  Be sure to water regularly for attractive and healthy foliage and an abundance of flowers; water the base of the plants and not the leaves, fronds, or petals.  If deadheaded, longer bloom times will be encouraged.  We offer a variety of plants that have unique textures and lovely flowers, and they can provide just as bright and appealing colors as our sunny ones!

The Bee Balm 'Gardenview Scarlet', (Monarda didyma) will make an amazing accent plant with its stunning red-rose flowers and dark foliage.  Add Black-eyed Susan 'Herbstonne', (Rudbeckia) as a companion plant and you will have blooms showing off from summer until frost.  With beautiful colors and extravagant blooms, don’t forget queen of the flowering vines, the clematis!  Select from the purple dwarf clematis Clematis 'Bijou to the heavenly beauty, ‘Blue Angel’.
