Moonbeam Threadleaf Tickseed
Flowers for days!
In 1992 the gardening world was atwitter. A new version of a garden stalwart had come on the scene and taken everyone by surprise. It wasn’t a big plant, but it made a big impression. So much so that it was named the Perennial of the Year in 1992 (no small feat considering how many flowers vie for that honor around the gardening world!).
Clocking in at only 18” high and 24” wide, Threadleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis Verticillata 'Moonbeam') packs quite a floral punch. Covered in a profusion of butter yellow flowers, Moonbeam glows in sunny beds and borders. The fine, threadlike leaves give this plant a soft, frothy look. It’s almost completely maintenance-free nature makes it even easier to love.
It fills containers and hanging baskets all spring and summer with delicate blooms, frothing up like foam on a latte. The flowers are delicate looking, but are great to cut for nosegays and the more you cut, the more you get!
This herbaceous perennial easily withstands heat and humidity and still looks great. Try it with daisies or salvias for a really stunning look. (The soft but glowing yellow color really makes purples, blues and reds stand out!) It excels planted in masses around trees and in big beds.
