Kimberly Queen Fern
An elegant, upright, house plant
Ferns are an elegant plant. They bring a cool, green sophistication to any setting. Kimberly Queen Fern, Nephrolepis obliterata 'Kimberly Queen', isn’t as famous as other ferns – Boston or Dallas ferns, for instance – but it deserves to be. It has all of the lovely qualities of the more well-known ferns, but with improvements.
This Australian import can grow to three feet high, but the Kimberly Queen Fern tends to stay more tight and compact than other ferns. It also grows upright, not flopping over like a big Boston fern does. This means that you can use it in pots with other plants around its base, because they won’t be blocked under fountain-like leaves.
It is not affected by humidity – or the lack thereof – so it excels as a more easy care houseplant than you might be used to with other ferns. It looks great in the back of the border if planted outside, making a lacy backdrop for other perennials through the summer and fall. If you want to dig your Kimberly Queen Fern up and bring her inside for the winter, she will be more than happy to be a nonintrusive house guest.
Make sure to water her well, but then let her dry out before watering again. Even though she is far more forgiving than other ferns you’ve had in the past, too much or too little water will stress her out, like all ferns.
