Adding a durable groundcover will increase the value of your property; and is certainly a safer choice than turf on sloping land. Choose an evergreen selection for structure, texture and color all year-long.

For a showy look in a very low-growing conifer, select Calgary Carpet® Juniper (Juniperus sabina 'Monna'). It features bright green foliage that is nice and soft.

No need for gloves when handling this "pricker-less" variety!

It works beautifully on both large-scale properties and in small space gardening. Whether you are just getting started, or have many years of experience under your belt—leverage low-maintenance plants like Calgary Carpet Juniper to gift yourself time back in your weekend.

But easy-care doesn't have to be boring or staid. Narrow sprays of scale-like foliage of the Calgary Carpet are held in a layered branching habit.

It has a wonderfully undulating appearance that adds a tremendous amount of visual interest. Create a wind-tossed ocean of green to soothe your spirit at home and to draw eyes to your commercial properties.

You may be surprised how relaxing a solid mat of these highly textured plants will be. There is a reason Asian Zen Gardens rely on form and texture, not flowers, after all.

You'll also welcome their unique ability to drape and sweep around the base of landscaping rocks and over the top of retaining walls. Ground and soften your hardscape with these outstanding carpet Junipers.

Low, mounding Calgary Carpet are one of the easiest plants to grow, and handle rough conditions with ease. Put your mower away and enjoy a well-deserved retreat in your landscape.

Order Calgary Carpet Juniper from the best growers in the business. You'll appreciate these stunning, subtle workhorses.

How to Use Calgary Carpet® Juniper in the Landscape

Control erosion with a collection of groundcover Junipers rushing down the length of a slope. Use this variety near the base of the slope as a transition plant.

You'll love the consistency of color, but the variance of form will be thrilling. Include Kallay's Compact or Sea Green for height. Use Saybrook Gold to make a showy highlight, and Andorra for a rich, purple-bronze winter color.

These rugged plants can become a mainstay in a unique, care-free garden feature. Plant them four to six feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

For faster coverage, plant closer together. Or, select the largest container size we have in stock to gain a big head's start.

Mulch between plants, taking care not to cover the branches. Pull mulch back away from the main stems.

Add staggered rows to create a solid sea of green. Keep newly installed mass plantings weeded while they grow together and touch.

Even on a flat lot, you can enjoy their handsome good looks. Go modern with a dedicated series of rectangular planting beds filled with Calgary Carpet.

Use at the top of harsh retaining walls. You'll be thrilled to see the new growth cascade down in a very effective presentation...like a "living waterfall"!

Add on the sunny side of Red Twigged Dogwood shrubs. Include Ornamental Grasses in your planting for an outstanding winter display.

Calgary Carpet also makes a terrific partner for perennials in a long border. You'll have some color to relish in the dead of winter.

#ProPlantTips for Care

This dependable selection grows in baking-hot, all-day full sun. Provide at least six hours of sunlight a day.

Well-drained soils are a must. Elevate the planting in a mound of additional soil if you need to improve the rate at which water is shed after a rainfall.

Dry soils are fine, after your Calgary Carpet Juniper is well-established in your soil. Give careful water the first year to support the developing root system.

Prune in early spring, if desired. Lift the end of a branch up and snip back to a point. You'll shorten up that growth without affecting the form of the plant.

If you live with deer in your area, apply repellent spray on the day you plant. Reapply as directed by the label.

Bonsai enthusiast? Our expertly grown plants give you a tremendous place to start. Enjoy crafting these layered conifers into a living work of art.
