Honey Maid Holly

Holly - Honey Maid, Ilex x meserveae 'Honey Maid', can grow up to 12' or even 15' tall, but most plants reach a mature height of 8'. Its form varies with the cultivar, but is either pyramidal or rounded; branching is horizontal to irregular and generally dense and shrubby. Its foliage is variegated blue-green with creamy margins, and it is a fantastic variegated holly, with very consistent coloration. Honey Maid produces white flowers in late April and early May, and while these flowers are numerous, they are not overwhelmingly ornamental. Yellow and green foliage, adorned with bright red berries, looks amazing in winter. This fruit, produced by the female plant, matures to a bright red in the fall and is very showy. Honey Maid grows best in full sun, but light shade is tolerated with more open growth resulting. It prefers moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soils, but it is relatively soil adaptable.
